TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental, Aug. 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Education, Tangub City Schools Division (DepEd-Tangub) has moved to strictly enforce the ban on selling of junk foods inside its school premises.
The move is for the safety and protection of the health of school children, Dr. Victoria V. Gazo, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) said in her memorandum to all Districts/Teachers-ln-Charge and Principals of both public and private elementary and secondary schools in the division.
Particularly, SDS Gazo directed the DepEd-Tangub school administrators to strictly enforce Article K of City Resolution No. 2004-06-1244, enacted by the Tangub City Council, calling for a ban on selling of junk foods inside the school premises and within the radius of 100 meters away from the school campuses.
Pursuant to Sec. 11K.01of the said City Resolution, “No person shall sell junk foods without Sangkap Pinoy seal inside the school premises and within the radius of 100 meters away from the school campus.”
Sec. 11K.02 defines Junk Foods as “foods which are no longer fresh and nutritious; having neither value for consumption nor further use; rubbish,” while Sangkap Pinoy Seal refer to “foods for sale that are approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD).”
Meanwhile, Sec. 11K.03 provides that the School Administrator shall strictly implement Article K and that failure to do so shall subject the concerned school official to administrative sanction in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Likewise, Sec. 11K.04 imposes the penalty for any person, who violates Article K of the said City Resolution, to pay a fine of P500 or revocation of business permit, of the stores selling junk food within the 100 meter radius from the school campus, SDS Gazo said. (RCAguhob/PIA10-Misamis Occidental)
